The Federal Communications Commission is upping its benchmark for high-speed fixed broadband to download speeds of 100 megabits per second and upload speeds of 20 megabits per second, the first major change the standard has seen since 2015.
Internet service providers will soon be competing to provide high-speed, broadband internet service to the most remote and hard-to-reach areas in the country.
The Federal Communications Commission plans to invest about $20.4 billion in rural broadband infrastructure, a move the agency says will add high-speed internet service in about four million homes and businesses.
