Election results should start coming in tonight, with control of the White House, Senate and House all very much up in the air. But keep in mind it could be days before we know which party controls the White House and U.S. House, given the time it will take to count votes.
Passage of a new farm bill this year remains a long shot, but the House Agriculture Committee’s planned markup of a bill on May 23 could help some vulnerable Republicans while putting pressure on a handful of Democrats who are in close re-election races.
Leaders of the Senate Agriculture Committee are working together to get a year-long extension of the 2018 farm bill included in a new continuing resolution that will be needed to keep the government funded after Nov. 17.
The mid-term elections are likely to redraw the political map for the next two years, but perhaps not as much as Republicans initially thought, pollsters and pundits say.
