The Agriculture Department is partnering with 31 state attorneys general to look more closely into anticompetitive practices in the food and agriculture sectors as part of a broader White House initiative to promote marketplace competition.
The Department of Agriculture provided 45 additional days to comment on its proposed rule to address market concentration and competition, the “Inclusive Competition and Market Integrity Under the Packers and Stockyards Act.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and National Economic Council Director Brian Deese unveiled a new report that blamed consolidation in the beef, pork and poultry sectors for higher grocery store bills and unveiled new actions to address the situation.
