Senate Agriculture Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow is seeking a federal ethics investigation into a business deal between former Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and agribusiness giant Archers Daniels Midland. The Washington Post reported this week that Perdue in early 2017 purchased an ADM soybean facility for $250,000 that was worth millions.
Congress is out this week, but Biden administration officials say they’ll continue to work with Senate Republicans toward an infrastructure deal. To recap, Republicans came back with a counter-offer last week of close to $1 trillion, which is still far under Biden’s last proposal of $1.7 trillion.
Jewel Bronaugh’s nomination is headed to the Senate floor. The Senate Ag Committee used a voice vote Monday evening to send her nomination to be USDA’s next deputy secretary to the Senate floor after Bronaugh, currently the Virginia ag commissioner, took part in an April hearing.
