The Bureau of Reclamation only plans to allocate 50,000 acre-feet of water to Klamath Basin farmers this year, a drought-inspired move that has producers concerned about the 170,000 acres of cropland they hoped to irrigate.
Farmers along part of the Oregon-California border will get very little water for irrigation this year and federal agencies are offering financial assistance to compensate for some losses.
Farmers and other water users in the Klamath Basin have finally come to the end of the legal road in their attempt to get compensation for water that was reallocated to protect endangered fish in 2001.
