'Digestible' plastic could offer alternative to plastic food packages

Plastic food packaging, especially single-use containers, is a growing problem for the food industry. According to the UN Environment Program, 460 million tons of plastic is generated each year worldwide. Almost half (46%) goes to landfills, 22% becomes litter, 17% is incinerated, and 15% is collected for recycling. However, less than 9% is actually recycled.

2023 SNAP error rates increase slightly from previous year

Last year, SNAP recipients were overpaid at a national average rate of 10.03% and underpaid 1.64%, according to USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service. The payment errors are not synonymous with fraud and instead reflect how accurately states, which administer SNAP benefits, determine eligibility and payment amounts.
