House Republicans are down in Florida today trying to hash out plans for the budget reconciliation process that’s critical to President Donald Trump’s spending and tax priorities. Monday evening, Trump appealed to the GOP rank and file to get unified behind the agenda.

House Agriculture  Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson indicated Monday he wants to limit cuts to SNAP that Republicans will try to make through the budget reconciliation process. But the panel’s new top Democrat, Rep. Angie Craig, questioned whether he can hold the line and warned that a deep reduction could ultimately doom a new farm bill. She also said the committee's farm bill last year was skewed to benefit southern farmers. 

Dairy producers are bracing to lose workers amid mass deportations of undocumented immigrants, making reforms to legal foreign worker pathways a major priority for the industry in the year ahead, International Dairy Foods Association CEO Michael Dykes said in a speech Monday.

Agriculture Secretary-nominee Brooke Rollins assured senators Thursday the Trump administration would provide another round financial aid if farmers are hurt by a trade war sparked by increased tariffs. She offered less assurance to farmers concerned about losing workers due to the administration's planned mass deportations. 

President Donald Trump is doubling down on his assertion that new tariffs could hit next month. He told reporters Tuesday that China may also face new duties on Feb. 1. Meanwhile, U.S. trade partners reiterated that they’re ready to respond quickly and forcefully.
