Pork exports have enjoyed a healthy first half of 2023, but beef sales to overseas customers have lagged, according to data released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF).
The U.S. Meat Export Federation estimates pork volume exports rose in February by 11% to 219,729 metric tons, while value increased by 10%, compared to a year ago.
The halt in operations at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach was brief and union workers are now back on their jobs, but the stoppage at the largest port complex in the U.S. created a scare for U.S. meat exporters and their foreign customers, according to U.S. Meat Export Federation spokesman Joe Schuele.
