The National Young Farmers Coalition, with support from U.S. restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill, announced a new campaign Tuesday asking Congress to invest $2.5 billion over 10 years to in the 2023 farm bill to “facilitate equitable access to one million acres of land for the next generation of farmers.”
The American Farmland Trust announced a new model geared toward increasing the use of conservation practices in the Great Lakes Basin by engaging women landowners, the operators who lease their land, and agricultural retailers through workshops, toolkits and “learning circles.”
Farm families up and down the Missouri River fight for their livelihood as historic floodwaters destroy roads, bridges, fields, livestock, and local communities, at the same time farmers across the Midwest are struggling with low commodity prices already.
Farmland values are expected to remain stable in 2019, despite uncertainty caused by lower commodity prices and farm incomes over the past five years, Farmers National said after looking at recent trends in its 28-state service area.
So which way are land values heading? Farmers National Company says there are both positive and negative factors at work that are affecting the market, and the next six months will tell the tale.
