AUSTRALIA, September 6, 2017 - Australians set the bar high on low carbon emissions, according to a year-long study by Green Energy Markets. The 2016-2017 report found that the continent produced enough renewable energy to power 7.1 million homes – 70 percent of its population. Renewable energy made up 17.2 percent of power generated. Use of renewables over fossil fuels translates into ridding the roads of 8.1 million cars. The industry boomed over the year with construction beginning on 46 large-scale green energy projects. Renewable energy provides nearly 9,000 Australians with full-time jobs. Small-scale rooftop solar systems were installed in 226,000 homes, leading to $1.6 billion in power savings.
