Jeff Rowe, now the president of Syngenta Crop Protection, will become CEO of the Syngenta Group on Jan. 1, one of several leadership changes announced by the seed and agrochemical giant.
Rowe was previously president of Syngenta Seeds.
Syngenta Group’s current CEO, Erik Fyrwald, announced he would be stepping down at the end of the year, where he will retire after seven years with the company. He will remain on as an adviser and continue serving as chairman of the Syngenta Group’s board of directors.
Hengde Qin has been tapped as the new chief financial officer, replacing Chen Lichtenstein, who is stepping down to “pursue other business opportunities,” according to Syngenta’s press release. The transition will take place on Dec. 1.
Qin currently serves as the chief human resources officer of Syngenta Group, based in Basel. He previously served as president of Syngenta Group China.

Lichtenstein began working for ADAMA, a crop protection company based in Israel. He then served as president and CEO of ChemChina's strategic business division, China National Agrochemical Corporation and then was appointed ADAMA president and CEO in 2014. He became CFO of the Syngenta Group in 2020.
“I want to thank Chen for his strong leadership and close partnership with me as we launched and grew the Syngenta Group during a period of very strong profitable growth,” said Erik Fyrwald, outgoing Syngenta Group CEO. “Now it is time for this team to hand over the baton to Jeff and Hengde. I am pleased to leave Syngenta Group financial leadership in such excellent hands.”
