USDA says it will invest $2.9 million in 2018 to fund seven new projects under the Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership. The projects are aimed at mitigating wildfire risk, improving water quality and restoring healthy forest ecosystems in areas where public forests and grasslands intersect with privately owned lands.
The department is also investing $29 million to support 21 ongoing partnership projects. Altogether, the money is going for projects in 24 states and Puerto Rico. For example, nearly $300,000 is funding a project in Louisiana to accelerate the restoration of longleaf pine and other native ecosystems on public and private lands.
