AKRON, OHIO, Oct. 11, 2017 - FirstEnergy Corp. hopes to purchase 9,200 megawatt hours (MWH) of solar power and 320,000 MWH of renewable energy for use at its Ohio utilities. The company announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) to purchase Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for Ohio Edison, Cleveland Electric Illuminating, and Toledo Edison. FirstEnergy hopes the RFP will help it reach renewable energy targets under Ohio's alternative energy law. Bidders must be certified as SREC or REC by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Credit applications are due Oct. 31. Proposals are expected no later than Nov. 7.
