The Environmental Protection Agency says it will allow farmers to resume using chlorpyrifos insecticide on 11 crops in response to an appeals court ruling last month that the agency failed to adequately consider the safety of those uses.
A federal appeals court has rejected an effort by farm groups to stay the Environmental Protection Agency’s revocation of food tolerances for chlorpyrifos, which went into effect Feb. 28.
The Environmental Protection Agency will prohibit the use of chlorpyrifos on food crops grown in the U.S., the agency announced Wednesday, complying with a federal appeals court order issued in April.
EPA will make a decision about whether to revoke food tolerances for chlorpyrifos within 90 days of receiving an order from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, a Justice Department lawyer promised a 9th Circuit panel during oral arguments Tuesday.
