EPA is asking registrants of four organophosphate insecticides to submit new label amendments, which could include canceling some uses, to better protect workers who mix, load and apply the chemicals, and anyone who comes in contact with them.
A new bill would ban two widely used classes of pesticides and allow citizens to petition the Environmental Protection Agency for designations of pesticides as “dangerous,” which could lead to suspension of their registrations.
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation should list chlorpyrifos as a toxic air contaminant, a state scientific panel has recommended following review of a comprehensive risk assessment of the widely used insecticide.
