The air district regulating the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles is considering a regulation to cap emissions to protect environmental justice communities. It has ignited a broad coalition of farm groups, unions, shippers and other organizations to stand in opposition.
The rollout has been met with litigation, technology hurdles and the collapse of a high-profile deal, while niche industries like grain and feed providers feel unfairly targeted and will be impacted first.
Dozens of farming and business groups and unions are pleading with the mayors of Los Angeles and Long Beach to oppose a proposed emissions rule that they fear will limit exports and imports through two of the largest U.S. container ports.
