Dairy producers and market participants will be sharing testimony starting Aug. 23 on a wide range of proposals for USDA as it considers updates to the federal milk marketing order.
USDA plans to start a hearing process Aug. 23 on conflicting proposals from milk producers and dairy processors over changes in the way milk and dairy products are priced under the federal milk marketing order system.
The International Dairy Foods Association is petitioning USDA to alter the way processors are compensated under federal milk marketing orders, but the proposal faces opposition from the National Milk Producers Federation, which is also pushing for changes in the formula for pricing milk.
House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn Thompson says the House will move its farm bill ahead of the Senate this year, and he’s pledging to work with the Budget Committee to ensure the legislation is adequately funded.
