Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a new round of climate-smart commodities projects, funding smaller initiatives that target niche markets and often have a greater role for minority farmers and institutions.
Congress faces a Friday deadline for keeping the government funded, while the Agriculture Department this week will announce a second round of projects that will test approaches to developing and marketing low-carbon commodities.
Republicans plan to use their razor-thin House majority and the committee control it gives them to investigate the Biden administration’s regulation of pesticides, climate policy and other issues important to agriculture.
