The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s expanded dollar-for-dollar match program is poised to help more California families buy fluid milk products.
Despite disappointing results in its first year, supporters of a program designed to get Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) shoppers to buy more low-fat and non-fat milk hope that an expansion of the program will yield better results and lay the groundwork for continued investment in the next farm bill.
USDA-FNS authorized $3 million to Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute to work with six retailers in Alabama, California, Georgia and South Dakota to implement at 116 locations its Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives Projects to encourage increased consumption of healthy dairy products.
