Bayer, which now includes Monsanto, will continue to defend itself from lawsuits alleging that the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup does not cause cancer, the company’s CEO told financial analysts in a teleconference Thursday.
Sometimes, in order to get what you want, you have to give a little. In the case of the latest consolidation in the agriculture sector, Bayer will have to give a lot to get much more.
Bayer says it is pushing back the expected date of closing its proposed $66 billion acquisition of Monsanto Co. and that it is prepared to make additional concessions – including selling its entire vegetable seed business – to win approval from antitrust authorities in the EU, the U.S. and elsewhere.
WASHINGTON, May 8, 2017 – In order to win antitrust approval for its $66 billion acquisition of Monsanto, Bayer said today that it has agreed to sell its Liberty branded agro-chemicals business and Liberty Link trait technology.
