Lawmakers decided the fate of hundreds of bills last week, when appropriations committees prevented several from advancing or added “poison pill” amendments.
More than 1,600 bills are still in play and agricultural lobbyists are racing through meetings with legislators to get ahead of critical floor debates. The focus has now shifted from water rights to labor issues.
EJs are pressing for more freshwater flows to fish populations and to boost their voices within GSPs that have failed to meet state standards. The board also has a role with Sites Reservoir and reforming water rights.
Staff called for more funding to better enforce curtailment orders. But progressive lawmakers and academics are pushing for greater water rights reforms.
