Declining prices for cereals and vegetable oils helped drive world food commodity prices down for the 12th straight month, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations said Friday.
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s measure of global food commodity prices eased again in February on significant drops in the cost of dairy products and vegetable oils and fractionally lower prices for grains and meat.
A measure of world food commodity costs fell for the sixth month in a row in September, led by lower prices for vegetable oils and dairy and meat products that offset gains in grain markets.
FAO's gauge of global food prices fell for the fifth consecutive month in August, led by continued softening in wheat markets, but remained 7.9% above its level a year ago.
Global prices for food commodities dropped sharply in July, led by declines in vegetable oil and grain markets, but food costs overall remain 13% above the level a year ago.
FAO's measure of global food commodity prices fell slightly in April, driven by an easing of corn and vegetable oil prices, after jumping 13% the month before following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
