The third annual FIRA USA robotics conference will take place in Woodland in October, with growers, startups and venture capitalists talking agtech for speciality crops.
Specialty crop growers anticipate labor costs, which already represent more than 50% of their production costs, to grow 10-30% over the next three to five years. They’re increasingly turning to automation as a solution, according to a new specialty crop automation report released by the Western Growers.
Western Growers (WG) plans to bring high level ag-tech classes to California college students. The group has received a $750,000 grant from CDFA’s Specialty Crop Block Grant Program to bring training to an estimated 2,750 students in community colleges and four-year colleges and universities.
Specialty crop growers have long struggled with finding available workers, but the industry is working to rapidly solve their ag labor woes through innovation and automation
