Farm groups have grown accustomed over the last few years to having more money to work with for promoting their products overseas, but that abundance could come to an end quickly.
Just one year after the COVID-19 pandemic locked down millions of individuals and forced many restaurants and bars to close, consumers started going out again and consuming more wine. U.S. wine consumption per resident increased from 2.93 gallons per resident in 2019, to 3.07 gallons in 2020 and increasing again in 2021 to 3.18 gallons, according to the Wine Institute.
American ag exporters have been finding it increasingly difficult to get their commodities into containers and onto ships as Chinese companies and international shippers monopolize ocean transportation, but lawmakers are hoping to alleviate the situation with new legislation.
