As California faces one its worst infestations on record and grapples with a historic budget deficit, Newsom is proposing to fundamentally change the way government regulates pesticides, say industry advocates.
Coastal lawmakers pressed for details while rural lawmakers raised concerns over broadly sweeping regulations for the nation’s most diverse agricultural economy.
The agriculture industry is not alone in heavily opposing the Newsom administration’s plan to overhaul the state mill assessment, which levies fees on pesticide sales to fund the Department of Pesticide Regulation.
