Governor Gavin Newsom has tapped the Department of Water Resources Director Karla Nemeth to serve as adviser on the Administration’s water priorities and made other appointments to support the change.
Erratic climate swings—from drought to floods and back to dry conditions—are delivering less certainty to farmers for the coming irrigation season and a lot of misunderstanding about how much water is actually imported for food, electronics and other products.
DWR Director Karla Nemeth made a case that the implementation of SGMA beginning this year will provide “agriculture with more certainty, even around surface water supplies.”
