The United States is backing the National Pork Producers Council and American Farm Bureau Federation in a lawsuit seeking to invalidate California’s Proposition 12, which would ban the sale of pork from hogs raised without minimum square-feet requirements.

The Senate is officially out of action until Oct. 19, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., says negotiations on a potential coronavirus relief package will continue today. “We’re having our conversations,” she told reporters on Monday.

USDA has announced plans to kill its survey of farmworker wages, a move the United Farm Workers claims is aimed at cutting wages for H-2A workers. In a notice posted Wednesday, USDA says the fall survey conducted by the National Agricultural Statistics Service is no longer needed because of data that is available from other sources.
