The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Tom Vilsack as Secretary of Agriculture and has tapped Gloria Montaño Greene as deputy undersecretary for farm production and conservation.
The Senate on Tuesday voted to confirm Vilsack as the nation’s Secretary of Agriculture, giving the former Iowa governor another term at the helm of USDA.
Two new officials will begin their roles at USDA on Monday and will bring a wide array of experience working in farm and natural resources policy with Latino and Native American individuals.
USDA has tapped Monica Rainge to serve as the deputy assistant secretary for civil rights, and Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., has been named the new Chair of the Senate Ag Appropriations Subcommittee.
The panel charged with addressing farm and food policy in the House of Representatives is adding four new Democrats and bringing one more member with previous experience back to the committee.
