Pesticide companies and the Center for Food Safety are pleased with a legal settlement that involves canceling 12 neonicotinoid registrations and evaluating the effects of two neonics on endangered species.
Growers in California and several other states are fighting to retain use of chlorpyrifos, a broad-spectrum insecticide environmentalists and farmworker advocates have sought to ban for years.
New assessments by the European Food Safety Authority confirm the risk of three neonicotinoids to bees, EFSA said last week, and may lead to a permanent ban in Europe of the insecticides.
