Reorganization plans at the Departments of Interior and Energy did not get a warm reception at the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee last week, with senators particularly concerned about the administration's proposal to eliminate the Advanced Research Projects Agency within the Department of Energy (ARPA-E).

The new year is bringing new blood to the Senate Agriculture Committee as it welcomes Nebraska’s Deb Fischer, a Republican, and Minnesota’s Tina Smith, a Democrat. The senators are joining just as the committee is preparing to ramp up efforts to bring home a massive new five-year farm bill, so there will be plenty of work and not much time for acclimation.
