WASHINGTON, September 13, 2017 - The Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) aims to eliminate a top consumer complaint in connection with electronic vehicles: charging time. On behalf of the Vehicle Technologies Office, EERE announced an upcoming funding opportunity to enable extreme fast charging. VTO is seeking to encourage the development of plug-in electric vehicle systems that can recharge rapidly at high power levels. Advanced battery projects will focus on early-stage research of battery cells that can enable extreme fast charging. Electrification projects will support the development and verification of electric drive systems and infrastructure for plug-in vehicle fast charging.
