FLORIDA, July 12, 2017 - Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has installed the first of nearly 1 million new solar panels along the Treasure Coast in Indian River County. As part of the company’s solar expansion, FPL is building eight new universal solar energy centers – including two in Indian River County and one in St. Lucie County – that are scheduled to start generating clean, emissions-free energy by early 2018. The Treasure Coast facilities are part of one of the largest solar expansion plans ever in the eastern U.S. Combined, the new solar plants will have nearly 600 megawatts of solar capacity – enough to power 120,000 homes. Florida’s Treasure Coast borders the Atlantic just north of Miami.
