WASHINGTON, June 21, 2017 - Energy Information Administration (EIA) statistics show that monthly electricity generation from wind and solar exceeded 10 percent of total generation in the U.S. for the first time ever in March. On an annual basis, wind and solar made up 7 percent of total U.S. electric generation in 2016. Based on seasonal patterns in recent years, electricity generation from wind and solar will probably have exceeded 10 percent of total U.S. generation again in April, EIA says, as it awaits those monthly figures. The share is expected to fall to less than 10 percent in the summer months.
