WASHINGTON, June 21, 2017 - Energy Secretary Rick Perry joined other Cabinet members and officials from a host of federal agencies at the inaugural meeting of the Interagency Task Force on Agriculture and Rural Prosperity.
“Promoting agriculture and rural prosperity is something that is very important to me since I know first-hand how vital energy and electricity are to our rural areas,” said the former Texas governor. “At the Department of Energy, we are ready to do our part to bring prosperity to our small towns and rural communities.”
Perry said the department’s Bioenergies Technology Office is facilitating private and public partnerships to develop new technologies that make biofuels cost-competitive, and that DOE’s national labs are working to develop new ways to use crops for energy.
“I look forward to working alongside my fellow secretaries and agency colleagues to preserve a high standard of living for rural Americans,” he said.
This task force was established by an executive order from President Trump on April 25 and is chaired by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue. Its objectives include improving food safety; advancing the adoption of innovations and technology for agricultural production; and encouraging the production, export, and use of domestically produced agricultural products.
