WASHINGTON, Jan. 14, 2015 – Freshman Rep. David Young, R-Iowa, has been awarded a seat on the House Appropriations subcommittee that controls spending for the Agriculture Department and Food and Drug Administration.
Young, a former chief of staff to Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who represents Des Moines and southwest Iowa, replaced Tom Latham, R-Iowa, who was a longtime member of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., also was assigned to the Agriculture panel.Harris, a physician who is starting his third term, represents Maryland's heavily agricultural Eastern Shore.
Jeff Fortenberry, R-Neb., dropped off the subcommittee.
Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., remains chairman of the subcommittee. The other GOP members are Alan Nunnelee of Mississippi, Kevin Yoder of Kansas, Tom Rooney of Florida and David Valadao of California.
Fortenberry is joining the Energy and Water subcommittee, which determines funding for water projects, along with Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash.
The Interior and Environment subcommittee, which handles the budgets of the EPA, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service among other agencies, is getting two new members: Mark Amodei of Nevada and Evan Jenkins of West Virginia.
