WASHINGTON, DC, Sept. 6, 2013 – AgriTalk and Agri-Pulse are teaming up to host a debate on the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), which will be broadcast live starting at 11:00 EST from the House Agriculture Committee hearing room in 1300 Longworth House Office Building on Thursday, September 12.
The Renewable Fuel Standard, which requires that transportation fuel sold in the United States contains a minimum volume of renewable fuel, has come under attack from a wide variety of organizations this year, with many asking for changes and some calling for outright appeal.
The debate will be moderated by AgriTalk’s Host Mike Adams and Agri-Pulse Editor Sara Wyant. They will be joined by two passionate advocates who represent both sides of this topic: Renewable Fuels Association CEO Bob Dinneen and Colin Woodall, vice president for government affairs for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
“The Renewable Fuel Standard is decreasing our dependence on foreign oil, creating jobs, and revitalizing rural communities. I am all geared up to explain the facts and debunk the negative attacks,” said Bob Dinneen, President and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association. “It is an excellent time for this debate. USDA is expecting a robust corn crop and just last month USDA issued a report showing that food prices are rising at a slower rate than expected.”
"We appreciate the opportunity to discuss the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). America’s cattlemen and women are not opposed to renewable fuels; it’s the arbitrary mandate of their use that is at issue,” notes Woodall. “This mandates places cattle feeders and the entire cattle sector on an unlevel playing field for the finite amount of corn produced. And as we saw over the past two years, even in the face of widespread drought and a significantly diminished harvest, the mandate remained in place to detriment of many segments of agriculture.
