WASHINGTON, June 7, 2013 - Approximately $3,000,000 in funds were made available today for the Risk Management Education Partnerships Program.

Through the Risk Management Agency (RMA), the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) is awarding funds to create partnership agreements designed to educate producers about risk management techniques.

Since 2002, partnership agreements have been awarded under the Agricultural Risk Protection Act of 2000, with typical topic areas consisting of education and outreach. Last year, projects were announced in education and targeting states.

Educational projects typically consist of new ways to train farmers and ranchers to make sure they can use risk management tools to get the most out of their land. Last year, $7.7 million was awarded to fund 94 Education and Outreach Cooperative Agreements across the country, delivering training to U.S. farmers and ranchers in managing production, marketing, and financial risk.

In addition to the money awarded for education, $4.9 million was awarded to deliver crop insurance education and information to producers in 16 states designated as

historically underserved in crop insurance coverage. These targeted states are Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Unlike typical grant programs, applications will not be accepted through Grants.gov. Instead, applications must be submitted through rma.agrisk.umn.edu, which is also where those interested can find a tutorial on submitting an application. RMA will also provide training on changes from last year and how to apply on the new system on June 14 and 27. To register for the training, emails can be sent to RMA.RiskEd@rma.usda.gov or call 202-720-0779.

The application process closes July 22 at 11:59 a.m. EST, and applicants are encouraged to apply early.
