WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2013 – Newly-elected Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., announced today that she has co-sponsored her first two bills in the Senate, one of which is the farm bill.
Heitkamp, also a new member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, threw her support behind the re-introduced farm bill, which was offered this week by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
“The farm bill is imperative to the economic security of North Dakota farmers, a five-year farm bill will provide the men and women in the agriculture industry the security and certainty they need in order to make long-term plans, secure funding, and protect against catastrophic loss,” Heitkamp said. “I have been an adamant supporter of a long-term farm bill and I am eager to work with my colleagues to see that it succeeds in Congress this time around.”
The other bill she co-sponsored is the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act.
