WASHINGTON, November 30 – Today, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) announced the release of the 2013 calendar for the U.S. House of Representatives. The calendar is publicly available in printable month-by-month and one-page formats, as well as through a downloadable Google calendar, at MajorityLeader.gov. The 113th Congress will commence on January 3, 2013 with the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected Members of Congress.
In a letter sent to
Members of Congress regarding the 2013 House calendar, Leader Cantor wrote:
“Part of our
goal in scheduling the House is to ensure that we never lose touch with the
constituents we each represent while completing our work in Washington. Time
spent in the district between Monday and Friday is essential for meeting with
small businesses, employees, seniors, veterans, and other local communities
during working hours. We will continue to accommodate Members with longer
distances to travel home and provide at least one constituent work week each
month, with the exception of June.
“To make the
most of our time in Washington, we will protect each morning for committees to
conduct substantive work without interruption and limit floor votes to the
afternoons, with the exception of appropriations work. Finally, we will adjourn
each week no later than 3:00 p.m. on the last day in session. Combined, these
reforms have brought increased predictability to Members’ schedules and
efficiency to the committees and floor.
“Our country
faces enormous challenges in the months and years ahead. The House’s 2013
calendar is set—it is now up to us to find common ground to deliver results for
the people who elect us.”
