The former Western Agricultural Processors Association has become the Western Tree Nut Association, in a bid to expand its membership and advocacy to all tree nut industry stakeholders.
With a remodeled website, WTNA is opening membership to growers, having previously represented processors and hullers-only at the state and federal level. The association also promises members access to new networking opportunities and exclusive tools.
The association has a two-tiered membership structure, with the second tier including member consulting services on issues including employee safety standards, air pollution permitting and fumigation management.
Over the last year, WTNA lobbied the California Air Resources Board over clean vehicle restrictions and a proposed ban on the herbicide paraquat.
"The transition to the Western Tree Nut Association signifies a new chapter in our mission to support the tree nut industry," said WTNA President and CEO Roger Isom.
