Foster Farms announced it is discontinuing fresh turkey processing operations in Turlock in response to changing market demand. The decision follows Cargill's recent announcement that it will close a turkey processing plant in Arkansas, shifting work it to Missouri and Virginia.

Foster Farms CEO Jayson Penn thanked 519 affected employees in a statement, saying the decision “does not reflect their efforts” and is a part of the company’s strategic plan.

He added that the company is now “even better positioned” to serve its customers and will offer Turlock employees job support services and transfers to other Foster Farms facilities in the Central Valley.

Turlock Mayor Amy Bublak thanked Foster Farms for collaborating with the city on job transfers during the transition. Her statement detailed the shutdown, expected to take place in May.
