The Bureau of Reclamation and San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority have signed an agreement to increase the San Luis Reservoir’s storage capacity by 130,000 acre-feet.
The project satisfies water supply needs for an additional 2 million people, more than a million acres of farmland and 135,000 acres of Pacific Flyway wetlands and other habitats.

The project is made possible through bipartisan infrastructure law funding, including $125 million announced in January. The Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act provided another $60 million, making the final federal contribution $295 million.
San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority Board Chair Cannon Michael said the project will improve access to clean drinking water and reliability for agriculture.
