In accordance with the Powering Up Californians Act, the California Public Utilities Commission decided on new timelines to expedite new and improved electrical services.
The decision also allows the CPUC to hold utility companies accountable in the energization process and includes monitoring and reporting requirements across parties.
The targets, which affect Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), San Diego Gas and Electric and Southern California Edison, are based on five-year energization data, which would reportedly reduce the maximum timelines for grid connections by nearly half if they are met.

Once a customer submits a request, they will work with the utility companies to develop a project schedule. The timelines begin from the date of request and vary based on energization type and the average number of days to energization target.
To track progress, utility companies will submit mandatory biannual reports to the CPUC demonstrating efficiency and documenting any setbacks with establishing service. They must also create customer engagement plans to improve public understanding and engagement with the process.
The first biannual report will be submitted on March 31, followed within 90 days by a workshop to discuss collected data.
