The California Department of Food and Agriculture is creating a program to help historically underrepresented groups get projects funded through the 2025 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.

Historically underrepresented groups may include non-profits, tribal governments, school districts, organizations that support underserved farmers or new farmers that have operated less than 10 years, or those that offer access to specialty crops in underserved communities.

Each proposal through the Additional Assistance for Historically Underrepresented Organizations Program is supposed to say among other things how the project would improve California specialty crop competition across markets and expand access and consumption of California specialty crops.

Grant projects may last up to two years and eight months with allocations for individual awardees ranging from $100,000 to $250,000.

Applications are open until Sept.27 at 5 p.m. and can be emailed to grants@cdfa.ca.gov. CDFA will host a series of webinars to provide information on how to use the Additional Assistance Program starting on Aug. 29.
