The California Water Resources Control Board said it still needs more than 40% of the required water usage reports that were due at the beginning of the month.
The reports are filled out by water rights users and give the state “a more accurate picture of water use,” the California Department of Food and Agriculture noted in a release. The figures from the reports, the department added are “an important tool for accurate enforcement and planning.”
