USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is releasing $1 million from the Environmental Quality Incentives Program to help farmers in California recover from damage caused by last month’s flooding.
“NRCS in California is committed to assisting agricultural producers recover from these recent, devasting rain events, and this initial $1 million investment will help get farmers back to farming,” California State Conservationist Carlos Suarez said in a release.

The agency also is calling attention to the Emergency Watershed Protection Program, or EWP, which can assist in projects including debris removal or streambank stabilization.
“EWP provides immediate assistance to communities to mitigate potential hazards to life and property resulting from flood events and other disasters,” said Suarez. “EWP allows us to work with local sponsors to help damaged watersheds so that lives and property are protected, while preventing further devastation in the community.”
