The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) has agreed to cancel an Oct. 9 scheduling conference on Navigator Heartland Greenway's proposed carbon dioxide pipeline.
NHG had asked to cancel the conference until after the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) rules on its application for a pipeline through that state.
“Given the review of its route and technical specifications as well as the regulatory uncertainty due to the pending decision from the ICC, NHG has elected to seek the requested relief in order to preserve the resources of the Board, the Office of Consumer Advocate, NHG, landowners, and interested stakeholders," the company said Sept. 29 in a filing with the IUB.
NHG, which originally asked for an evidentiary hearing in Iowa to take place July 27, 2024, cited its own review of the Iowa route in requesting a delay.

"NHG does not believe it is an efficient use of any party’s resources to continue with discovery, motion practice, the filing of revised petition exhibits and Exhibit H documents, and the finalization of a procedural schedule until after NHG has completed its review of its Iowa route and technical specifications and until after the ICC has issued its decision on NHG’s Illinois application,” the company said in the request.
The ICC must rule on the status of NHG’s application no later than Feb. 29, 2024. NHG then plans to inform the IUB and file an update “on or before March 29, 2024.”
