WASHINGTON, Feb. 10- More than 80 agriculture representatives and related groups signed a letter today urging the House and Senate Agriculture Committees principals to “Do the Farm Bill Now.”
The letter asked Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Representatives Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) and Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) to work with the organizations to attempt to pass a full, comprehensive reauthorization of the farm bill this year.
Passing a new farm bill is expected to face challenges, especially during an election year. The letter’s supporters oppose calls for simply extending the current 2008 Farm Bill.
“We ask you to reject these calls for delay and aggressively act to ensure that a new, comprehensive farm bill is passed this year,” states the letter. “A temporary extension of current policy creates tremendous uncertainty.
