Senator Susan Rubio of Baldwin Park introduced a measure Tuesday that would update the codes governing access to the California FAIR Plan, an insurer of last resort for farmers.
The state’s insurance code currently excludes farm risks. The California Farm Bureau has reported that dozens of its members have been unable to gain insurance through the plan as a result. The bill offers to replace “farm risks” with “agricultural crop risks,” though the language will continue to evolve throughout the legislative session.
