Grammy Award–winning singer and songwriter Jason Mraz is also an avocado farmer, with nearly two decades under his belt. He testified at an informational hearing for the Assembly Ag Committee on Wednesday about the need for more policies and incentives to support regenerative farming.
Mraz said his farming grew from a hobby to a business interest in 2015, when he saw the need to create a direct-to-consumer operation to remain competitive in the marketplace. And it wasn’t easy.

“Keeping up with all the reporting requirements for local, state and federal is daunting,” he said. “It really is. It’s tough.”
Mraz supported Newsom’s earlier proposal for a climate resilience bond for funding on-farm carbon capture projects. He also pushed for establishing carbon sequestration credits, which have been the subject of recent bills.
